Chotto Ookii Theatre Company
(pronounced: choh-toe oh-key th-ee-at-are com-pan-knee)

Chotto Ookii Theatre company is a collaborative devising theatre company comprised of five members; Matt Rogers, Kathleen Yore, Rebecca Devitt, Jake England-Johns and Rebekah Caputo. These five artists met whilst studying at Bretton Hall and after working on various projects together decided to form as a company in 2005.

The central focus at this time was to create non language based theatre work which communicates on both an emotional and intellectual level, blending various different styles of performance. With the company members having a rich and diverse range of experience in disciplines such as contemporary dance, stand up comedy, acting, clowning and mime they felt that they were in a good position to accomplish their goals, and so with the help of the Yorkshire Dance Centre began work on their debut show “And Even My Goldfish”.

“And Even My Goldfish” received critical acclaim across the board as unique multi-disciplinary theatre experience for which Chotto Ookii were awarded the Total Theatre Award for best newcomer in 2006.

Since then Chotto Ookii have taken the opportunity to draw from the experiences of a variety of artists; having worked with visiting practitioners such as Al Seed and Iain Bloomfield, whilst building a close relationship with Bradford Theatre in the Mill. All of this in order to best realize their next work which has now materialized as “THUS FAR and no further”.
